Backtest methodology

Prices and returns

Fractional shares use split-adjusted prices. Profit is final value minus principal. All amounts are USD; no FX conversion is applied.

Cumulative return = (final value ÷ principal − 1) × 100

CAGR = ((final value ÷ principal)^(365.2425 ÷ elapsed days) − 1) × 100

Dividend reinvestment

Stored provider-reported dividends are used. Pretax dividends use holdings before the ex-date and are reinvested at the next trading close. Pending dividends at the end remain cash. Results may differ from payment-date investing or official total returns.

Exclusions and data

Taxes, transaction fees and inflation are excluded. Provider corrections can change results. No reported dividend events does not prove that no dividend was paid.

Frequently asked questions

Does a positive return mean the previous peak recovered?

No. Return compares with the initial investment. Drawdown and recovery compare with a preceding peak.

Why can actual dates differ from my inputs?
